Bill Would Help Communities Enforce LGBT Anti-Discrimination Laws

A state lawmaker is pushing to help municipalities crack down on sexual orientation or gender identity discrimination. Statehouse reporter Andy Chow has more.

More and more local government entities are considering LGBT-friendly policies such as adding sexual orientation or gender identity to the list of protected classes.

Democratic Representative Michael Stinziano of Columbus says he's proposing a bill that would enlist the Ohio Civil Rights Commission to help the small municipalities that don't have the resources to enforce these rules.

"If you support your local communities you absolutely should be behind this proposal. I think the local communities know what's best for their residents for what the value of those communities are," said Stinziano.

The civil rights commission could carry out investigations into complaints and offer recommendations.
