Cifelli Pleads Guilty in Double Murder

The news came during the second day of jury selection for Cifelli's trial, and after months of extensive pre-trial activity, including psychiatric evaluations of his mental competency - and DNA tests of blood found on his clothing. The defendant and his two victims all lived in the same westside building, and police investigators say the murders came after a series of arguments between Cifelli and Hayashi over the volume of his stereo system. Prosecuting attorney Steven Dever says Judge Daniel Gaul has delayed the official sentencing until next week.

Steven Dever: We are bringing in family members of the two victims, one of them coming all the way from the west coast, so in order to allow anyone who would want to have something to say about the sentence, or the crime itself, we agreed we would go forward on his sentencing hearing Monday afternoon.

Dever says Judge Gaul has indicated his agreement with a plea deal which will see Cifelli serve two life sentences, without the possibility of parole. David C. Barnett, 90.3.
