The tax was first approved in 1990 and has raised hundreds of millions of dollars toward debt and repair payments on Cleveland’s three major sports stadiums.
While no one from the public signed up to speak for or against the measure at a council meeting last night, Council President C. Ellen Connally says there will be more chances later this month.
“This is certainly a very, very important issue," Connally said. "We would appreciate comments from the public and encourage people from the public or whoever has an interest to come and state their position or email us or give us any information, because we want to hear all sides of this.”
This resolution would put the issue before voters, who would have final say on the ballot this May. More hearings are scheduled for next Tuesday and the following one at council chambers in the county Justice Center.
