Dr. Ben Carson Speaks at City Club

Republican presidential hopeful Dr. Ben Carson gave his pitch to become Commander in Chief at the City Club of Cleveland Wednesday.  He touted his experiences as a philanthropist, a corporate board member, and someone who, as he said, “has experienced every economic level from the lowest to the highest.”

Carson rose to political prominence as a conservative African-American and critic of President Barak Obama's Affordable Care Act, which mandates all Americans have health care coverage.  Carson, an acclaimed neurosurgeon, would rather see a system of health savings accounts instead.

You make it available from the time you’re born until the time you die.  You can pass it to your family when you die.  And you give people the ability to shift money w/in their HSA. So mom is $500 short for a special mammogram, her husband can give it to her, or her son – anybody in the family.  It makes every family essentially their own insurance company. It gives you enormous flexibility. And also it makes you care about each other.

Polls show Carson near the top of the crowded field of Republican presidential contenders.
