FBI Raids Former MetroHealth Executive's Home, Businesses

FBI agents searched former MetroHealth executive Edward Hills home and associated businesses Tuesday. The investigation follows a long career at the county-owned hospital system.

Edward Hills worked at MetroHealth System for about two decades.

A dentist by training, Hills lead the hospital's oral dentistry department for much of that time.

He was named chief operating officer in 2010, after the abrupt departure of COO Angeline Marano. Hills then was named interim chief executive in 2013 after CEO Mark Moran stepped down. He left the hospital under an organizational restructuring in December last year, according to a hospital release.

MetroHealth’s statement, released late Tuesday, says FBI agents searched the former executive's home on Deer Island in Aurora as well as two dental offices and offices of a business related to Hills. None of the businesses searched are part of MetroHealth System.

The investigation began, according to the hospital statement, after MetroHealth alerted law enforcement to possible irregularities in the Department of Oral Health and Dentistry. The hospital did not disclose what years the possible irregularities occurred.

FBI Spokeswoman Vicki Anderson released an e-mail statement, declining to comment further because it is an ongoing investigation. Activities from the searches are under seal by the court.
