ERIC: NEARLY 5 WEEKS FROM CHRISTMAS.

10-YEAR-OLD ZANDER HITE IS READY (NATS) TO WORK.

GRANDPA DARL'S GARAGE... MORE LIKE SANTA'S WORK SHOP RIGHT HERE IN THE HOOSIER STATE.

ZANDER HITE: "TAKES ME ABOUT TWO HITS TO GET ONE WHEEL IN."

IT ALL STARTED WITH A 20 DOLLAR BILL BACK IN FEBRUARY.

A GIFT FROM GRANDPA DARL WITH A MESSAGE. MAKE A DIFFERENCE

YOU'D BE SURPRISED WHAT SOME PEOPLE CAN COME UP WITH WITH JUST $20."

ZANDER BOUGHT TWO SLABS OF WOOD (NATS" IT'S BEEN REALLY FUN) TO BUILD TOY CARS.

ZANDER HITE: "I PLAYED WITH THEM WHEN I WAS LITTLE. AND I THOUGHT THEY WERE FUN TO PLAY WITH."

AT FIRST JUST ONE.

ZANDER HITE: "IT TURNED OUT TO BE REALLY FUN."

SO FOR MONTHS -- ZANDER WAS GRANDPA'S APPRENTICE.

GRANDPA DARL: "IT'S NOT SOMETHING THEY'RE GOING TO GET IN SCHOOL ANYMORE."

(NATS: HAVEN'T HAD ANY ACCIDENTS HAVE WE? NOPE. YES)

WEEKENDS, AFTER-SCHOOL. EVERY DETAIL COUNTS. NOW HE'S ENAMORED

NOW ZANDER LEADS THE WAY -- WITH A HELPFUL HAND NEARBY.

CARS. TRUCKS. IN FOUR BIG BOXES.

250 WOODEN TOYS IN ALL.

(NATS: QUITE A FEAT FOR A 10-YEAR-OLD)

ZANDER LOVES IT SO MUCH HE JOINED CENTRAL INDIANA WOODWORKERS CLUB -- WHERE HIS GRANDFATHER HAS BELONGED FOR YEARS.

ZANDER HITE "AT THE WOOD CLUB I'M THE YOUNGEST KID THERE." (NATS: BY HOW MANY YEARS? UH. 60 OR 70.)

THE ORGANIZATION GAVE HIM THE WOODEN WHEELS FOR THE CARS.

AND THE ENGINE TO DELIVER THESE TOYS TO KIDS IN NEED WITH ITS ANNUAL HOLIDAY TOY DRIVE.

SO THIS WEEK THEY LOADED UP THEIR SLEIGH TO HELP MAKE CHRISTMAS A LITTLE BRIGHTER FOR 250 HOOSIER CHILDREN.

ZANDER HITE: "THERE'S A GUY THERE WHO RUNS THE WHOLE WOOD CLUB AND RUNS THE MEETING AND I CAN'T WAIT TO SE HIS REACTION."

(NATS: THANK YOU ZANDER)

WE DON'T KNOW WHO WILL GET THE TOYS AND THESE CHILDREN WON'T KNOW ZANDER.

THE ONLY CHILD PARTICIPATING IN THE WOODEN TOY DRIVE.

IT WASN'T ALWAYS EASY.

ZANDER HITE: "IT WAS A CHALLENGING THING TO ACCOMPLISH TO WANT TO KEEP GOING."

HE DID CARVE OUT LIFE-LONG MEMORIES.

ZANDER HITE: "WE LAUGH A LOT WE HAVE FUN. I LIKE SPENDING TIME WITH HIM."

A BOND BETWEEN GRANDFATHER AND GRANDSON -- STRONG AS OAK.

(NATS: GOOD JOB I'M PROUD OF YOU.)
