Joko Widodo: Indonesia's New President

His supporters refer to him as a "man of the people" and now Joko Widodo takes on a new title.

In Indonesia, which is the world's third largest democracy, Joko Widodo was sworn into office this week in his newly elected position as president. Widodo, a former businessman, is unique in Indonesian presidential history because he's the first elected leader to come from neither an elite political or military background.

Thousands of supporters gathered in the streets of the country's capital of Jakarta to celebrate. Widodo becomes Indonesia's seventh president and will serve a five year term in office.
