Lava from Kilauea Volcano Prompts Disaster Declaration

This week, President Barack Obama signed a disaster declaration to help fight the lava flowing from the Kilauea Volcano in Hawaii.

It has slowed, but much of the damage has already been done, as the lava is now just 185 yards from a major highway. That's less than two football fields long!

The declaration allows federal money to be sent to Hawaii to help with the clean up, which state and local recovery efforts have already begun.
