Festivals of chalk art and jazz music dot the local landscape along with an exhibit on "The Art of Black Hair." Here are five artistic options happening around Northeast Ohio this week.

Chalk Festival

The Cleveland Museum of Art hosts the 32nd Annual Chalk Festival this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Fine Arts Garden and along Wade Lagoon. Artist Bruno Casiano invites the community to help him create a featured chalk drawing for the festival.

Tri-C JazzFest

The Tri-C JazzFest returns to the stage with a series of outdoor concerts at Cain Park in Cleveland Heights Saturday, September 11, and Sunday, September 12. Featured artists include Emmet Cohen, Samara Joy and the Spanish Harlem Orchestra.

“TEXTURES: The History and Art of Black Hair”

The Kent State University Museum opens the new exhibition “TEXTURES: The History and Art of Black Hair" Friday, September 10. The show explores the important and complex history of Black hair in African American life and culture.

"Life Drawing" with Derek Hess

Cleveland artist Derek Hess hosts a healing drawing session called "Life Drawing" for World Suicide Prevention Day Friday, September 10, from 1-4 p.m. at moCa Cleveland and online via a livestream. The program plans to support those looking to process emotions and reduce anxiety and stress.

"Mrs. Mannerly"

The Clague Playhouse in Westlake kicks off its 94th season on Friday with Jeffrey Hatcher's comedy, "Mrs. Mannerly," directed by Ron Newell. The play is inspired by a 10-year-old's memories of a childhood etiquette class.
