5 Virtual Arts Experiences From Northeast Ohio Artists And Institutions

The Cleveland Museum of Art's 31st annual Chalk Festival goes online this weekend. [David Brichford]

From a pair of beloved Cleveland art events to a few smaller art celebrations happening across Northeast Ohio, the online art world is full of opportunities to join the local community. Here's a quintet of artistic choices to enjoy online.

Cleveland Museum of Art

For three decades, the CMA Chalk Festival has invited hundreds to its front door to create chalk art around the lagoon in University Circle. Due to the pandemic, the museum takes its popular event to the internet for people to share their homemade chalk drawings on Facebookand InstagramSaturday and Sunday with the hashtag #CMAChalkFestival.

SPARX in the City

The Downtown Cleveland Alliance presents the annual gallery and art hop online with a two-day virtual and live-streamed event. Enjoy virtual trolley rides through the city and backstage theater and gallery tours and online concerts Friday and Saturday.

Mahall's

The Lakewood bowling alley and concert venue partners with Literary Cleveland and Visible Voice Books to host a virtual discussion on "The Future of Live Music," Wednesday, September 16, at 6:30 p.m. Writers Annalee Newitz, Sarah Pinsker and Mike Chen make up the panel for this online Facebook conversation and Q&Aabout the future of live events.

Valley Art Center

Beginning Friday the Valley Art Center in Chagrin Falls celebrates its 50th anniversary with the exhibition "Visionaries" highlighting the center's history.  The exhibit is available online as a virtual tour and for small in-person groups of 10 people or fewer.

The Beck Center for the Arts

The Beck Center in Lakewood is hosting its annual trip to New York City virtually this year. The online trip includes a walking tour and a live discussion with a Broadway producer and actors. Register online by Friday, September 11, at noon.
