Time is running out on a two-year freeze of Ohio’s green energy standards which require utilities to include renewable energy on the grid while also seeking energy efficiency. Now Gov. John Kasich and a top leader in his own party have laid out different ideas on where lawmakers should go with the issue.
Republican Senate President Keith Faber of Celina says he’d like to see the Legislature extend the freeze.
But Gov. John Kasich has said in the past that an indefinite freeze would be unacceptable. He has even stronger words for any attempt to repeal the standards.
Kasich: “I’ve told the legislature the standards that were set were unrealistic but if you try and kill the standards whether it has to do with the renewables or whether it has to do with the issue of saving energy I’ll veto the bill and go to the higher standards.”
The temporary freeze lifts at the end of the year if the House and Senate don’t pass any changes.
