On view at the Emily Davis Gallery on the University of Akron campus through February 20 th is the installation art of Julie Schenkelberg. Her work is one part sculpture, part construction and big enough to fill a large room. She uses reclaimed material for her installations and she finds inspiration from her time growing up northeast Ohio.
Recently The Tri-C Jazz Fest announced its 2016 schedule, happening the final weekend in June. Onstage here in Playhouse Square for the 3-day festival will be: sax-men David Sanborn & Maceo Parker, piano master Chick Corea, and the Latin Jazz band Cubanismo. Also on the schedule, and serving as artist in residence, is New Orleans trumpeter - Terence Blanchard. He was in town for the announcement and spoke with ideastream's Dan Polletta.
Edith Head is one of the most recognizable names in film-fashion history. During her 60 year career she worked on more than a thousand films, and garnered 35 Academy Award nominations. Head spent 43 years at Paramount Pictures, where she designed many of the iconic costumes worn by some of Hollywood’s biggest stars. We pay a visit to her historic costume collection at the Decorative Arts Center in Lancaster, Ohio.
