Buckeye Beat: Ultimate pumpkin carver

LET’S TURN TO SOMETHING A LESS A LITTLE LESS CREEPY CRAWLY, BUT STILL PRETTY SPOOKTACULAR. DEANE ARNOLD IS CARVING INTO THESE – PUMPKINS -- BUT NOT TO MAKE A PIE OR EVEN YOUR TRADITIONAL JACK-O-LANTERN. HE’S AN ARTIST USING THEM AS A UNIQUE – IF TEMPORARY -- CANVAS. LET TAKE A LOOK.

[PKG PUMPKIN CARVER]

WOW! MY JACK-O-LANTERNS NEVER TURN OUT THAT GOOD! AMERICANS HAVE BEEN CARVING PUMPKINS AROUND HARVEST TIME SINCE IRISH IMMIGRANTS BEGAN COMING TO THE COUNTRY. THEY USED TO CUT FACES INTO TURNIPS AND POTATOES TO SCARE OFF BAD SPIRITS IN THEIR HOMELAND. BUT WHEN THEY MOVED HERE, PUMPKINS BECAME THE VEGETABLE OF CHOICE.
