Last week's poll and Inbox

IN LAST WEEK’S POLL. WE ASKED: WOULD YOU APPLY TO BE AN ASTRONAUT? AND IT WAS A CLOSE ONE! BUT 52 PERCENT OF YOU SAID YES! NOW, LETS LEARN MORE ABOUT YOUR INTERSTELLAR TRAVELS – OR LACK THEREOF -- BY OPENING UP OUR INBOX!

ALAN FROM ELMHURST ELEMENTARY WRITES OF BECOMING AN ASTRONAUT:
OKAY...SIGN ME UP!  MY FIRST SPACE STOP WOULD BE IN THE NEW SYSTEM. I WOULD DEFINITELY VISIT THE NEW "EXOPLANETS"!  I KNOW IT SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE, BECAUSE OF THE 11,000 YEAR-LONG WAIT.  HOWEVER, I'D USE A "CRYO-SLEEP" CHAMBER TO STOP MY BODY FROM AGING AND EXTEND LIFE.  IF THERE IS ALREADY LIFE ON THE PLANET, I'D MAKE A TYPE OF TREATY AND MAYBE EVEN BEGIN TRADING!  IT'S MY PLAN, I'M STICKING WITH IT.

YUTA FROM WILLIAM BRUCE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN EATON, HAS SET HIS SIGHTS A LITTLE CLOSER TO HOME, WRITING:
I WOULD LIKE TO APPLY FOR AN ASTRONAUT BECAUSE I WANT TO FIND NEW WAYS TO SUPPORT LIFE IN PLANETS AND MAKE LONG SPACE TRAVEL POSSIBLE. I WANT NASA TO GO TO MARS FIRST. MY VERY FIRST STOP WILL BE THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION KIBO MODULE SINCE I AM FROM JAPAN AND IT IS A JAPANESE MODULE, ALSO IT IS FOR MANY EXPERIMENTS.

MAYA FROM MARYLAND ELEMENTARY WANTS TO JOURNEY TO THE RED PLANET TO MAKE HISTORY, TELLING US:
I WOULD APPLY TO BE AN ASTRONAUT AND MY FIRST STOP WOULD BE MARS! I WOULD BE THE FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN AND WOMAN TO EVER SET FOOT ON THAT PLANET (WHAT AN HONOR!). ALSO, TODAY I READ TODAY ABOUT LINDSAY AITCHISON WHO IS TRYING TO CREATE THE FIRST MARS SPACE SUIT BY THE 2030'S. SO WHEN THEY ARE READY SO AM I! SEE YOU IN SPACE!

NICK FROM MEADOWLAWN HAS A VERY DIFFERENT PLANET IN MIND, WRITING:
I WOULD GO TO URANUS, I THINK IT WOULD BE COOL TO GO TO THE COLDEST PLANET IN THE SOLAR SYSTEM. BUT YOU WOULD HAVE TO BUNDLE UP…YOU COULD DIE FROM HOW COLD IT IS. WITH THE COLDEST TEMPERATURE BEING -224 DEGREES, THE COLDEST TEMPERATURE RECORDED IN THE SOLAR SYSTEM. I WOULD BRING A HOT TUB WITH ME SO I CAN STILL BE WARM ON THE PLANET URANUS.

MAX FROM GRANBY ELEMENTARY WOULD POLITELY DECLINE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR SPACE TRAVEL, TELLING US:
I THINK I WOULD LEAVE BEING AN ASTRONAUT TO THE PROFESSIONALS.  I DON´T WANT TO BE AWAY FROM MY FAMILY AND IT WOULD BE PRETTY DANGEROUS AS WELL.  IT TAKES A LOT OF SPECIAL TRAINING AND EDUCATION. WE NEED TO LEAVE THIS IMPORTANT WORK TO THE PEOPLE WHO KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING.

THANKS MAX. AND THANKS TO NICK, MAYA, YUTA, AND ALAN FOR YOUR OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD LETTERS. AS WE LEARNED LAST WEEK, IT’S IMPORTANT TO STAY CURIOUS AND KEEP LEARNING TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS – WHETHER YOU WANT TO BLAST OFF INTO SPACE OR STAY FIRMLY-PLANTED HERE ON EARTH.

WE ALSO GOT A TWEET FROM MR. Y’S CLASS – ABOUT A TOPIC WE COVERED LAST WEEK: STATEHOOD DAY! LOOKS LIKE THEY HAD A SPIRITED CELEBRATION FOR OHIO’S BIRTHDAY! THEY GOT A CAKE AND EVERYTHING!
