WCLV's Jacqueline Gerber chats with Heather Lemonedes Brown, Chief Curator of the Cleveland Museum of Art, and co-curator of "Private Lives: Home and Family in the Art of the Nabis, Paris,1889–1900," about the domestic emphasis of the artwork by four closely allied French artists. The first question was "Who were the Nabis?"
She also explains how music by a composer friend of the artists was recently recorded when a local music student was hired to perform the short pieces, which are heard in the exhibit room devoted to music.
The exhibit was developed with curator Mary Weaver Chapin of the Portland Art Museum, where "Private Lives" will open in October 2021.
SPECIAL NOTE: This is a Web Extra interview, which includes material that, due to length considerations, was not aired on WCLV when the feature was heard on July 21, 2021, at 5:10 p.m. In addition to the history of the artists, and the recording of the music, Heather talks about the artists' birth announcements, and the importance of pets in the artists' domestic lives.
